Ottomans in Home Decor

Living Room decor ideas – transitional style with gray and turquoise color palette. Gray velvet sectional sofa, patterned occasional chairs flank the stone clad fireplace, metallic globe light fixture and a blue upholstered storage ottoman functions as a coffee table.

Domestic use of ottomans is not new, and according to the Encyclopaedia * Britannica (not Wikipedia), the ottoman has been with us since the late eighteenth century when it was imported to Europe from Turkey (the Ottoman Empire). Their origin is irrelevant to current use as a footstool or seat.

Some stools are made up of a small upholstered seat that stands on four legs, while others are in the form of a padded box with a hinged lid - the storage stool. These have several uses, seven of which are discussed here.

1. The Ottoman as a footrest

Many people love to stretch their legs while sitting. Whether they are reading a book, watching TV or just resting or taking a nap, people like to lift their feet and legs. The biological effect is to reduce the pressure on the heart as blood is pumped up through the check valves in the veins of their legs.

If you keep your legs up, your heart has less work and you probably use less energy to relax more easily. The padded top of an ottoman allows you to do this comfortably, and many use this type of furniture with their recliner chair instead of using the footrest that comes with the furniture.

2. Optional seating

Whether in the form of a box or a chair with short legs, an ottoman is upholstered and can be used as a seat. Maybe not as comfortable as a chair, but sufficient as an emergency or alternative seat in your home at parties or when a lot of friends come down to you. It can be stowed under a table and unfolded as needed - or rolled out if your ottoman is equipped with casters.

3. Ottoman coffee tables

Most well made stools are solid enough to be used as a coffee table - and not just in an emergency! Many use their ottoman as a coffee table! Your ottoman is usually lower than your chair or sofa and is perfect as a coffee table. Some Ottomans have a shelf under the top where magazines can be kept. In addition to being padded, they look more like tables than ottomans!

4th memory Ottomans

Storage stools are automatically padded boxes with padded lids. The lids are hinged and open to provide storage space that can be used in a variety of ways. For example, an ottoman can be used as a coffee table with a sofa bed and also for storing the sheets when the sofa is needed as a bed. It can be used as a piano stool where notes and other items are kept.

They can be used in nursery rooms for toys, computer or video games and controls, and in your bedroom as a comfortable seat to put on when putting sheets, pillows or nightwear. These are just examples - an ottoman can be used to store everything you need.

5. accent pieces

Although ottomans are footrests, seats, and storage containers, they can also be used as accent elements that highlight a color in your dΓ©cor and display a bright glowing color. In fact, everyone in the room can "Look at me!" - I'm beautiful, so do not ignore me. A bell ring? Ottomans can be used as occasional furniture to keep those ugly little things that you need in your room but hidden away, and as an extravagant piece of furniture that stands out.

6. Get to know you

If using it as a footrest or seat is not enough to relax, there are ottomans in many different sizes. The double-sized version can be used to relax or cuddle up to your favorite person. They are poor loveesats. The only way to avoid falling off the edge is to hold each other.

7. Kids Love Ottomans - and vice versa

Ottomans are kid-friendly - if a small child falls off an ottoman, it can be damaged illegally. They can be upholstered with child-friendly fabrics and provide a playing surface when sitting on the floor. They can be used to sit in front of the TV with a game controller and serve as a hurdle in the hall for racing or as a horse while riding!

These are just 7 applications for an ottoman in a normal household, though you can probably think of more. It is an extremely underrated and versatile home furniture that most households do not even own. Anyone who has taken the step to acquire can no longer do without it.
