A bassinet or cradle is a bed designed specifically for babies from birth to about four months and is small enough to provide a safe and comfortable resting place for newborns and toddlers. These are smaller than normal cots. There are many variations: light and portable types are sometimes referred to as "Moses baskets", there are the stand-alone bassinets, co-sleeper bassinet and the portable bassinet. Cradles are less portable and can perform rocking motions.

Bassinets are generally designed so that the baby that is resting can be transported from place to place and is close to his mother. Bassinets are often raised on a stand or other surface to reduce back strain when stooping to care for the baby. Lightweight and portable types are sometimes referred to as Moses baskets. A sofa bed allows the baby to have their own sleeping area near the mother's bed. One side of the stroller is lower than the other, and this side should be attached to the side of the mother's bed so that the mother can be close to the baby. Portable bassinets can be moved from room to room, where the mother is, so she can watch the baby.

Most bassinets are supplied with removable hoods. A removable or fold-back hood is preferred. Many bassinets are supplied with wheels to bring the child comfortably from room to room or with folding legs to save space.
The mattress pad should sit safely and without a gap between mattress and bassinet edge. A firm mattress is safer for the baby in terms of suffocation risks.

Bassinets should have no sharp or rough edges, have a stable footing and the folding mechanism should lock securely. Most bassinets have additional storage space on the floor and wheels that facilitate transport from room to room. The wheels should have a locking mechanism for stability reasons when not in use. Cradles can be rocked while the babies enjoy the calming, rocking motion and sleep. To ensure your baby's safety, most brackets have locking pins that prevent the bracket from tilting more than 5 degrees. The brackets should snap into place when needed. The standard size of the charging station is 18 "x 36".
